There was a time, not too long ago, when if you wanted to sell something, you had to rent a storefront, buy product, advertise your store, and await the customers. Thanks to the internet, that is no longer the case. Anyone can set up a virtual storefront in minutes and start selling the very same day.
When setting up your website, you need to have one main consideration. And, that is, how can you attract visitors? By putting up a website of your wedding photos, you probably won’t have a lot of traffic. But, if you can create a website that comes up high in the search engines and brings back repeat visitors, you can earn a lot of extra cash. To create visitors who search your site out time and again, you need to keep your content fresh and there is no better way to do that than by blogging.
Creating a blog on your website is an easy way to make sure that your website is dynamic and always offering up new information for visitors. And, by “blogging”, I don’t mean telling the story of your day at work. You need to provide information that people will want to read. Provide stock tips, fitness advice, or your take on the latest reality television shows. Give people something that serves a purpose to them and they will keep coming back.
Once you have content that is “sticky”, you need to create revenue streams on the pages. One of the best ways to do this is by signing up Google’s Adsense program. By placing advertising on your site through Google, you will earn money every time someone views the ads. If they happen to click through, you will earn even more. Many other companies such as Yahoo or Linkshare offer “pay per click” or “pay per view” revenue opportunities. Simply sign up with them and ad their code to your HTML.
If you think your visitors will want to purchase a specific item such as a book or CD, then Amazon.com’s affiliate program may be the best way to go. Your website may be dedicated to a particular artist or author, so feature that author’s or artist’s books or CD’s on your website. Your visitors will appreciate the opportunity to see what is on sale and you can add your own review of the item, too. Amazon.com pays a percentage of the sale price, as opposed to a “pay per view” program, but the percentage can be considerably higher and you will receive credit at Amazon.com for further purchases.
